The author presents traditional children’s verbal folklore texts collected during the research in the vicinity of Dukla in the Podkarpacie region. The article describes finger plays (mainly “Tu sroczka kaszkę warzyła” which is represented by the most extensive number of variants) and lap rhymes. Both genres are among the first forms of play encountered by a child. Their positive impact on verbal, physical, and mental development is also discussed. The second part focuses on the teaching rhymes used to prepare children for the work formerly performed in the countryside, e.g., activities related to haymaking. In conclusion, the author emphasizes the role of musical folklore, songs, and situational texts in building and strengthening regional identity.
