The activity of Roman lawyers as the basis for the development of the European model of advocacy in Ukraine

The scientific research highlights the history of the formation of the modern Аdvocacy in Ukraine, including in the western Ukrainian lands at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The author argues that the development of the Ukrainian Advocacy is an integral part of the development of the Roman Advocacy in modern Europe. Undeniably, during the stay of the western Ukrainian lands under Austro-Hungarian rule, the contribution of lawyers, which at the same time were leading scientists, politicians and statesmen in the process of development of the Advocacy, is significant. The active social, political and scientific participation of well-known Ukrainian lawyers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries influenced the formation of the Ukrainian state in the years 1917–1920. The article analyzes the activities of student legal circles, clubs, as well as “Union of Ukrainian Lawyers” and their place in the history of the Advocacy in Ukraine.
