Preserved sources regarding Roman criminal law are very often devoted to procedural issues. There was also room for the question of evidence in the Roman criminal trial. This article discusses the issue of their reliability. It was taken into consideration not only the evidence itself, its type or substance. The person who presented the proof and the method of obtaining it was also checked. In some cases, the use of torture was obligatory.
