This article presents the educational potential of the scouting method as well as selected forms and techniques used within scouting environments. The starting point is an analysis of the dialogue between the needs of contemporary educational institutions and the solutions that scouting can offer. The issue is examined on the basis of two methodological proposals: the ‘method hand’ developed by Jan Rossman and the characteristics of the scouting method formulated by Ewa Grodecka. The focus is placed on the possibilities of applying their components when planning and conducting Polish language lessons in primary school. Another important element of the article is also a synthesis of the results of an empirical study conducted among teachers of this subject, which demonstrates that experience gained in scouting contributes to more effective performance of professional duties. The article is complemented by proposals for the use of scouting forms and techniques as activating teaching methods, carefully adapted to contemporary educational needs.
