Ukrainian-Belarusian Borderland: Belarusian Influence on the Subdialects of Ukrainian Polesie

Abstract

The present paper is devoted to the research on the Ukrainian northern supradialect or, more precisely, the issue of the influence of Belarusian language space on the structure of local subdialects within it. The paper aims to indicate and describe characteristic features of Ukrainian Polesian subdialects, yet only those that testify to common with South Belarusian dialects trends in the evolution of dialectal phenomena or that penetrated into their structure as a result of Belarusian influence. In connection with this, the research is largely confrontational. This is why comparative-historical and descriptive methods of analysis were taken up.
