Abstract

This article raises a problem of the so-called technological unemployment. The aim of the article is an attempt to answer the question whether in the modern world there is a problem of technological unemployment and to what extent it concerns Poland. Moreover the article gives consideration which occupations are most at risk of disappearing from the labor market and what are ‘the jobs of the future’ which, along with development of IT technology, are going to be most wanted. In order to answer the questions contained in the article, an analysis of statistic data within the area of the discussed issue and also the assay of available literature referring to the subject (on the Internet and printed publications) have been performed. Jobs and professions which are associated with advanced automation have been considered as to be threatened by the technological unemployment (e.g. cashiers). Whereas professions which involve direct and face-to-face contact between people and empathy (e.g.therapists), as well as requiring high expert knowledge (e.g. senior managers) and also professions related to the IT industry (programmers) have been considered as to be taken out of the risk group.
