The negative influence of wastes on the environment is one of the most important among ecological problems of XXI century thus creating sustainable waste management system should be one of the priority assignments. In the rural regions wastes are often stored up on illegal or insufficiently prepared landfills and current waste management results in the majority of wastes are not recycled. To attain level of recycling required by EU directives the effective collection system and modern recycling installations as well as systematic social education is needed. This process should be also considered as the opportunity to create new places of employment for inhabitants of rural regions of Podkarpacie. The aim of this paper was to present chosen information about waste management in the context of Programme of Rural Regions Development 2007-2013, Strategy for Development of Podkarpacie Province 2007-2020 and also the analysis of the actual state of waste management on chosen rural areas.
