Abstract

The purpose of this paper is an analysis of the proper names of pigs from a diachronic perspective. Based on Stefan Warchoł’s research about traditional folk zoonymy, and individual research, including the names of pigs housed in shelters, the dynamic for naming animals was analysed. The focus was mainly on the categorisation and tabulating the frequency of names over time. An important aspect was to consider the subjectivity of the pigs in the context of the names given to them.
