Abstract

Stanisław Vincenz became a philosopher thanks to his encounter with Rudolf Holzapfel and his writings. It was a decisive impulse in writings his tetralogy On the High Uplands. Sagas, Songs, Tales and Legends of the Carpathians, his major oeuvre. It was not a philosophical system but a narrative reconstruction of a world that vanished. It seems that Vincenz paid his debt to his mentor Holzapfel in his latest work Socrates’s Post-war Vicissitudes published in 1985. In Vincenz works Galicia gained a special glorifying writer. Fascinated by voices from the past he created an alternative to totalitarian political systems.
