Multicultural education as a part of education for democratic citizenship values in school

The issue of values is still the hot topic of various sciences. Pedagogy, like other social sciences deals with different values, specifically addressing their relationship to education. In contemporary society the more that we often meet with the notion of crisis of values. In this paper we focus on the area values of democratic citizenship, which is possible to develop by a child already using diverse educational actors, processes, strategies, resources. One of the most important and overriding factors is undoubtedly the family, but also the school. The importance of this group of values is due to the nature of contemporary society, its needs and the needs of every individual who wants to succeed as a citizen of a democratic society. The aim of this paper is to indicate and emphasize the need to develop a holistic personality through school education, to emphasize educational, but also formative role of the school. In our contribution we focus on the values of democratic citizenship and the role of multicultural education in their development. In accordance with the intention of the contribution the content line runs through the definitions of value, value system, value orientation, a brief description of types of values, through closer characteristic values of democratic citizenship, an indication of possible schools for their formation through multicultural education and closer characteristics of this cross-cutting theme, the nature, objectives and means of achieving them. Although the possibility of schools in promoting the values of democratic citizenship much more diverse, we focused on the area of multicultural education, the importance of which grows mainly in connection with the hybridization of different cultures in today's global society and the need to know and respect the different culture and to know, respect and know to vindicate own culture.
