The aim of this article is to present the ongoing academic discussion on the popular topic of contemporary generations. In addition to identities such as race, gender, and nationality, defining generational affiliation can be important in identifying individuals' psychological self-image. The article is theoretical in nature, but it includes conclusions from empirical research. Scientific papers and the media present descriptions, characteristics, and differences between contemporary people classified as generations: Baby Boomers, X, Y, and Z. The text includes the views of proponents of generational theory, as well as those who raise doubts about the contemporary concept of generations. It also addresses stereotypes that can be activated by generational labels.
