Abstract

The subject of the study is the analysis of the problems of liquidation and subsequent reactivation  of local government administration in Poland after World War II. After the end of World War II, the communist authorities sought to centralize power and, in connection with this, to marginalize or even liquidate local government authorities. After the systemic changes in 1989, local government was reactivated and its importance began to systematically grow. The article is based on an analysis of the constitutional acts of 1947, 1952, 1992 and 1997 and other selected acts.
