This article presents the issues of female genital mutilation as a s violation of the rights, health and integrity of women and girls. The analysis also contains extra-legal approaches of elimination of it. The reason why the author was decided to conduct these analyses was the amendment of the Polish Criminal Code and criminalizes all forms of FGM/C and also inducement and coercion to undergo female genital mutilation. Having a national law is an important step towards ending FGM/C but it is not enough to eliminate this deeply rooted traditional practice. For to be effective it is also necessary to take prevention and education activities
