The aim of this article is to present the nature and operation of bots and to show their role in creating and spreading disinformation messages in social media, especially in social networking sites such as X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook. This aim is planned to be achieved by characterizing the nature of bots and showing their place, alongside trolls, cyborgs and ordinary users who share false information, in the process of creating and spreading disinformation messages.
