The paper is a study on the readership of books devoted to the motives of disability among Polish philology students. The main goal of the research was to find out the opinions of the respondents on the inclusion in the school canon of readings devoted to the issue of disability, in particular the work entitled “Who stole tomorrow, or why is it not like in the picture?” by Olga Ptak. The paper also touches upon problems related to the issues of axiological competences among teachers, faced by increasing challenges in contemporary school. Further, it deals with empathy and the fight against stereotypes functioning in the social circulation about people with disabilities and their families.
