Abstract

The aim of the study was to demonstrate the experience of loneliness among students of rural schools. For the purpose of identifying the ocurrence of loneliness, the Polish adaptation of the de Jong-Gierveld Loneliness Scale was employed. The study was carried out by means of a poll method in 7th grade of primary school as well as 2nd and 3rd grade of gimnazjum. In total, it encompassed 103 respondents aged 14–16, 44 (42.7%) of whom were girls and 59 (57.3%) were boys. Upon the analysis of the results it was possible to determine the primary group of the boys and girls surveyed in terms of their experience of loneliness. The majority of the girls (70.50%) and the boys (59.60%) were found to experience loneliness to a moderate extent.
