Abstract

Supporting a child's development is the most important goal of education. Criticism of the effectiveness of school work and the simultaneous pressure of achievements encourages parents to look for opportunities to develop school skills as well as passions and interests by participating in extracurricular activities. The educational services market is opening up to the needs of parents, expanding its offer every year.

The authors, using the metaphor of a pitfall, recall the opinions of educators and psychologists about children being overloaded with extracurricular activities and the threats to development caused by the so-called helicopter parents, research on school burnout. Referring to the theory of self-determination, they draw attention to the importance of family relationships, the child's freedom and subjectivity, and the sense of meaning in the actions taken. The sense of self-determination is closely related to internal motivation, which promotes conscious development, internalization of values, satisfaction of needs, life satisfaction and effective action in adulthood.
