Abstract

A foresight study was conducted to identify potential directions for the development of urban labs in Poland, informed by the National Development Concept 2050. The paper addresses a research gap concerning the integration of foresight and urban labs within public policy. Both methods combine problem-based and innovative solution-base approaches, whereas stakeholders, lay-citizens engagement is mandatory. However, methods differ in their operational nature-foresight is rooted in future-oriented strategic planning, whereas urban labs focus on testing and co-creating solutions within real urban environments. A case study of the “Urban Lab – City for the Young” program, which was designed to develop and implement urban labs that actively engage young city residents. This initiative aims to respond to pressing challenges, including Poland’s deepening demographic crisis.
