Abstract

Ensuring the sovereignty of a state and the security of its citizens requires numerous diplomatic, administrative, and managerial initiatives. One of the state's fundamental security responsibilities is the care and maintenance of its borders, which determine the jurisdiction and authority of state authorities over its territory, while remaining a component of the national security system. Protecting a state's borders primarily involves a series of administrative and physical measures to ensure their inviolability, but also the maintenance of systems enabling the recorded, lawful movement of people and goods across the border. The aim of this article is to present the issue of protecting Poland's borders in the context of dynamic geopolitical and regional changes. Threats emerging in recent years, particularly on the eastern border, have necessitated the implementation of a number of preventive measures and measures intended to ensure the country's internal security. These security threats stemmed primarily from the destabilizing and provocative policies of the Russian Federation, which escalated into a war in Ukraine and a Russian-led migration crisis in Belarus. Given the threats, Poland has focused on strengthening its defenses and modernizing border infrastructure, with the goal of ensuring stability and security in Poland and throughout the entire Central and Eastern European region. In the context of Poland's current potential cross-border security challenges and threats, the main goal of this article will be to answer the question: how can the security of Poland's eastern border be ensured in the current security environment, and what initiatives have been implemented to this end?
