The Protection of Natura 2000 Areas Located Close to Ore Extraction Sites: The Case of Gravel Mine in Trzciana Near Dukla

The article discusses gravel extraction site in Trzciana near Dukla, in the Jasiołka river valley, neighboring on the Natura 2000 areas. It presents Natura 2000 protected species near the opencast mine. Both positive and negative environmental aspects of ore extraction were described. The real impact of operational gravel mines on the environment was discussed, including the impact on the Natura 2000 areas, located in the vicinity of ore extraction sites. The investment enriches riverside and valley habitats, creating new sites for the reproduction and conditions of life for amphibians, nesting and preying of birds and increasing a biodiversity of the fauna and flora. It has been shown that land rehabilitation is one of the methods allowing for reducing inconvenience after opencast mining.Downloads
