Abstract

The aim of the article is to demonstrate that the distinction between freedom and independence, as mentioned in the title, cannot be made on the conceptual ground. Concepts are not capacious and flexible enough to reflect the complex relationship motivated by historical conditions, social position, or ideology. The natural basis for distinctions is the biographical trajectory of a subject living in a specific place and time. This results not only from the wide scope of meaning of the concepts considered, but also from the essence of their specification, which is related to the activity, fate, consciousness and other features of the existential subject.
