Abstract

A decisive factor in the dynamic development of textbooks used in gymnasiums of Galicia in the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries was the launch of a publishing campaign by two associations: the Pedagogical Society and the Society of Teachers of Higher Schools. At the time, these societies were the largest publishers of textbooks. From the side of pedagogical supervision played the Commission of School Manuals at the National School Board. Thanks to the determination and persistence of Polish (Polish-language) scientists and pedagogues – despite the attachment to meticulousness and functioning in the bureaucratic school system c.k. – until the end of the autonomous period, not only polonized, but to create well-designed and published textbooks for Polish junior high schools.
