About the Journal

"Sacrum et Decorum. Materials and Studies in the History of Sacred Art" (ISSN: 1689-5010, e-ISSN: 2720-524X) is a peer-reviewed, bilingual (Polish-English) academic journal published in Poland by the Rzeszów University Press, devoted to Christian sacred art in Poland and around the world in the 19th-21st centuries.

The journal covers a wide range of sacred art inspired by Christianity, relating to this religion or commissioned by the Church or intended for worship. We are interested in all topics related to art and artistic craftsmanship connected with the Christian faith in all its denominations and branches. We are open to various contexts of study (iconographic, biographical, ethical, etc.), including issues related to metaphysics in Christian art and works exploring this area of art in a broad cultural context. We also accept studies on the protection of heritage and the conservation of Christian sacred art created in the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to peer-reviewed scientific articles, we also publish reports, reviews and essays related to the subject matter of the journal.

We are defined by the following keywords: God, sacredness, Christianity, artist, 19th-21st century, Christian sacred art, religious art, metaphysics, sacred architecture, sacred painting, sacred sculpture, artistic craftsmanship, icon, stained glass, cultural heritage, monument protection, church, Orthodox church, congregation, Second Vatican Council, via pulchritudinis.

"Sacrum et Decorum" is an international journal, allowing for the comparison of research results from different universities. We cordially invite researchers, mainly art historians, museum curators, artists, monument conservators, ethicists and cultural anthropologists who focus their research or creative work on Christian sacred art of the last two hundred years to collaborate with us.

We accept original, unpublished texts that have not been submitted to other publications, written in Polish or English and relevant to the profile of our journal. Articles should contain between 20,000 and 50,000 characters with spaces, an abstract, keywords and a bibliography. Articles are accepted on an ongoing basis. The time of publication of an article from the moment the text is sent to the Editorial Office is approximately 150 days.

We do not charge authors any fees for submitting, processing, editing or publishing articles.
Texts that have been preliminarily accepted by the editorial board are reviewed in a double-blind review process.
