The aim of the article is to demonstrate, using the examples of 19th-century texts, that beyond the obvious affirmation of freedom during that time, writers, poets and journalists were aware of the limitations to which freedom was subject or should be subjected In the following sections, I discuss the limitations of freedom in various spheres: political, social, personal, and finally also the freedom of the press.
