Abstract

In the research conducted so far on the development of technical notions, the predominant actions were related with determining the number of such notions within the lexicon of the surveyed, or their increase in further periods, related to children’s development or education level. Very little effort has been made to research connected with pragmatics, namely the ability to use the notions included in the mental lexicon of children correctly. On the basis of literature describing the development of the notions, it has been assumed that factors such as family and local environment of children, mass media to which they are exposed, school education and students’ gender may exert a strong impact on both the number and the ability to use technical notions. This article presents results of the author’s studies on the ability to use technical notions by the students graduating from primary school.
