Vol. 19 No. 14 (2024): Polish Literature in the International Context

TIK 2024-19-14

This issue of Tematy i Konteksty has been devoted to the problem of the relationships between 20th- and 21st-century Polish literature and other literatures, as well as the broadly understood international context. Polish literature is primarily connected with our history, tradition, and literary culture; it responds to the challenges of reality, but it is also an important link in European - or more broadly, world - literature, drawing on its heritage and literary traditions. At the same time, it itself can serve as a source of inspiration for foreign-language literatures, especially the European ones. In this sense, it constitutes an integral component of a larger whole. The broad international context makes it possible to consider our literature from research perspectives that are less frequently undertaken, perspectives shaped precisely by such coexistence and mutual relationships. Therefore, this issue includes studies and articles addressing, among other topics, such questions as the influence of world literature on Polish literature (movements, trends, works of international authors), the influence of Polish literature on European/world literature (works by Polish authors), Polish literary works on the global publishing market (translations, editions, reception abroad), Polish literature in relation to Jewish and German literature, and Polish émigré/migrant literature (its impact on the literature of both the country of origin and the country of settlement).
